Established in 2010 and consolidated in its present form in 2013, Underdogs works with a diversified roster of Portuguese and international artists connected with the urban inspired contemporary art universe, fostering the development of close relationships between creators, the public, and the city with the aim of promoting art as an everyday experience.

This exhibition proposes a friendly dialogue between photographs selected by Alfredo Cunha and seven artists: Ana Malta, Fidel Evora, Inês Teles, Márcio Carvalho, Pedro Gramaxo, Petra. Preta, Raquel Belli - seven artists from the first generation who did not live through the 25th of April in person but who grew up with the event in the collective consciousness.
They lived what came after, growing up in a free Portugal thanks to this date.
The artists were invited to choose, reflect on, and dialogue with each of Alfredo Cunha's images, inviting visitors to enter this time portal and offering a new and personal reading of these images from the past. Each of the monumental works commissioned for the exhibition conveys a mixture of emotions. From hope for a better future, through the importance of collective action, communication, and solidarity, to freedom. But also exclusion, the demystification of discourse, the absence, sometimes, of learning that leads to an obvious step backwards.
The photographer and the artists invite us to question the event, but above all to question time and its impact on our actions, our discourse, and our social relations.
A multidisciplinary cultural programme devised for all ages which, rather than offering an explanation of the contents, seeks to instigate thought. At the same time, it creates the conditions for other creations to develop from this exhibition, in various artistic disciplines, seeking to create active and participating audiences in relation to "Time Portals".
