Visual artist AkaCorleone was invited by Casa da Moeda to create a new special limited-edition coin. Integrating the Contemporary Urban Art series of their Numismatic Programme, this silver coin integrates his ongoing "Temple of Light" project, which encapsulates a contemporary and critical take on the concept of cult and religion.
Through its symbols and iconography, this coin explores some of the social, cultural and philosophical preoccupations that make up the conceptual framework of the "Temple of Light". On one side, representing knowledge, a book, an eye, fire, the phoenix and a set of open hands. On the other, a miniature reproduction of the "EQUALITY" stain-glass panel the artist designed for the Panorâmico de Monsanto in Lisbon, which approaches themes connected to gender and cultural equality, as well as democratisation and equal access to opportunities.
Weighing a total of 27 grams and with a diameter of 40 mm, this striking piece transports the "Temple of Light" project into a new territory, consolidating its presence in the sphere of economic symbolism and power.
