Established in 2010 and consolidated in its present form in 2013, Underdogs works with a diversified roster of Portuguese and international artists connected with the urban inspired contemporary art universe, fostering the development of close relationships between creators, the public, and the city with the aim of promoting art as an everyday experience.
Underdogs was invited by real estate developer VIC Properties to curate a series of large-scale interventions for a selection of construction fences in the new Prata Riverside Village residential complex being constructed in the Marvila neighborhood, where the Underdogs Gallery has been located since 2013.
The result is a site-specific and open-air exhibition with interventions by artists Guga Liuzzi, Jorge Charrua and Maria Imaginário, who transformed these fences - which are usually used to conceal construction - into creative indicators of the change and transformation taking place.
As one of the pioneers of this important and continuously up and coming area of the city of Lisbon, Underdogs' involvement in this process gives continuation to its position as a cultural platform that highlights and works with artists connected with the urban-inspired contemporary art universe, fostering the development of close relationships between creators, the public, and the city in order to promote art as an everyday experience.
