UNDERDOGS GALLERY
Rua Fernando Palha, Armazém 56 – Lisbon, Portugal

Were it not for the city's constructions, Kampus' work would not exist as it exists today. It is the buildings and the tunnels that sustain his interventions; it is the flyovers and the roads that receive his versatile and playful characters. It is the urban infrastructure - the system of basic services built by humans and indispensable to life in the city - that provides his raw materials.

In this exhibition, Kampus records the landscapes where he has already left his mark or those where he dreams of leaving it, by dint of his dreamlike, contemplative gaze. While the paintings abstract, the sculptures elevate architectural models to three-dimensionality. A metalinguistic work that imprints his confrontation with visibility, circulation, transformation, and appreciation.

Resembling the impressive human capacity for adaptation - which can seem either a great virtue or a huge defect -, Kampus' agile and astute amoebic figures fit into any corner. They happily adapt themselves to the space that is given to them, they bend, they replicate.

They always confront us with the indispensable sensation of fantasising: as fundamental to survival as the very elements of the city.
