Established in 2010 and consolidated in its present form in 2013, Underdogs works with a diversified roster of Portuguese and international artists connected with the urban inspired contemporary art universe, fostering the development of close relationships between creators, the public, and the city with the aim of promoting art as an everyday experience.
If the age of reason dictates that time is linear, ancestral observations suggest that, on the contrary, time is cyclical and rhythmic, that both the natural patterns and history repeat themselves in an eternal return. Prompted by the haphazard and uncertain pace that 2020 imposed on us – the forced breaks, the disruption, the unpredictability –, Add Fuel decided to take stock, to revisit his work and his path, the result of which is materialised here in a dialogue between linearity and cyclicity, between continuity and intermittence, between innovation and patternisation.
Seeking to reflect on the passage of time in the context of an oeuvre that, in itself, is already rooted in the idea of revisiting and rethinking the past – especially with regard to motifs and techniques of traditional tile work, both Portuguese and foreign –, “CHRONOS REDUX” presents itself as a journey of reinterpretation where Add Fuel casts a fresh gaze (formal and conceptual) on the fertile and unique body of work he has developed so far.
