This mural is a reinterpretation of a previous mural by Add Fuel, Frederico Draw, Gonçalo MAR and Miguel Januário.
Created by Portuguese artists Mariana Malhão, Moami, Petra.Preta and Tamara Alves, this work is a reinterpretation of a previous mural by Add Fuel, Frederico Draw, Gonçalo MAR and Miguel Januário. Paying homage to the 25th of April Revolution and one of its protagonists, Salgueiro Maia, the first mural became a cultural landmark of Lisbon. Keeping with the same theme, this new mural is integrated into the programme of celebrations of the 50th anniversary of this Revolution, which ended a 48-year dictatorship in Portugal.
Combining the creative aesthetics of each artist, it presents a contemporary perspective of this seminal event, now also highlighting the role of women. In addition to the iconic Salgueiro Maia portrait, the mural depicts prominent female figures from the movements for the liberation of Portugal's former colonies. Equally significant, the background draws inspiration from Portuguese Filigree and the visual patterns of African cultures. Anonymous silhouettes stand as representatives of the strength of a united people: the various layers of Portuguese society that fought for and celebrated the transition from oppression to freedom.
